Katrina Relief Effort

I am participating in Blog Relief Day (September 1) to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina. My charity of choice is the American Red Cross. If you're a blogger and would like to join go to Truth Laid Bear's Hurricane Relief page to join.

If you are like me and just want to help in some way, consider donating to the Red Cross.

I live in London and cannot believe the awful biblical scenes I am seeing as a result of Katrina. I've donated to the American red cross, but it feels like there should be much more I can do to help these poor people who are suffering so badly. My heart goes out to all my American cousins who are going through this wretched time. May God bless you all.

I am working with a company that that has dealings with The Spiritan Foundation, a non-for-profit organization that is helping hurricane refugees from LA and MS. They have set up a shelter in Houston Texas. They are in need of donations in order to help with the relief effort. Read more about them at : www.thespiritans.org

Id say avoid the Red Cross as its reported to be corrupt, and look for the smaller localised charities closer to the new orleans area. l'll find a few and post them back here. The smaller localised charities have more to gain by providing relief.

Avoid the Red Cross

I am requesting that you print my request for all churches in America to set aside the 10/1/05 collection for Hurricane Katrina relief. They should give the money to the organization of their choice; after making certain that the relief organization is legitimate. There are three purposes for my request: (1) A chance for Christians to show compassion for their fellow man since actions speak louder than words; (2) Putting stupid political statements aside; and (3) Watching the ACLU squirm if the churches follow through with this. I do not represent any particular church or oranization. I am a born again Christian, but that is a belief, not a requirement for love. Since I very much want this to happen, I will be forwarding this message to the editorial department of every newspaper I can find. Please understand that the name I have provided is false; but the email address is valid.
