Packing up...moving out...
Yep. That'll do it. I think I've got everything.
Last one out: Please lock the door and turn the lights off, ok?
Oh and don't worry... I'm not moving too far. And I can always visit.
Thanks for everything! It's been a blast!

Late but always great edition
Fistful of Fortnights, Sondra K, and Soldier's Angel Holly hosted a wonderful ball Tuesday... but we suspect our other hostess has been held hostage away from a computer in her new tropical paradise home. Oh, yes, the horror: Sunshine, beaches and too many luaus to be bothered to do things...like...blogging. ;)
But since it's always a great time to have another party...
I am proud to present:
Most of everything we do revolves around time. Time is wasted. Time is used. We're late. Early. There's never enough time. So what do the Cotillion girls say about time this week?
Some people are never on time. Like "el presidente" of Venezuela. Who Fausta from the Bad Hair Blog says is completely out of date when he says that the US is planning to invade Venezuela.
Hugo Chávez thinks the US is going to invade Venezuela any time now, but what he doesn't seem to realize is that he's been talking about a military training excercise from a quarter of a century ago.
Cassandra of Villainous Company makes a great point that waiting for everyone to agree only causes delay, delay, delay.
All notions of right and wrong, all questions of individual loyalty, conscience, or duty are subordinated to the value-neutral tyranny of Mass Agreement. It does not, after all, matter to what we all agree so long as we all do agree. The fact that we all agree (though this chimeric state has almost no chance of actually occurring) guarantees that we have done the Right Thing. How can it not be the right thing? After all, have we not all agreed that it is so?
Using your time wisely is always important. As Mary Katherine Ham can tell you. She admonishes Dianne Feinstein for not using her allotted time wisely when questioning John Roberts.
Dianne Feinstein does her darndest to look silly by spending most of her allotted time asking about toads and women jokes...Lesson to be learned: asking a Supreme Court nominee about a lawyer joke and a toad does not make one look like a formidable senator. Prospective Round 2 Question from Feinstein:"So, Judge Roberts, let's go over this one more time. Because you will be taking a life appointment on this all-important bench, I simply must insist that you explain to me one more time--what is it that comes after "knock, knock" and what are the implications of that on Roe v. Wade?"
Another person who could learn to use their time more wisely, like in a mental institution is Cindy Sheehan. Beth from Yeah, Right, Whatever points out some of her more absurd statements regarding Katrina and the evacuation of New Orleans:
..."When I reflect on how the mother of the imbecile who is running our country said that the people who are in the Astrodome are happy to be there, it angers me beyond comparison. The people in LA who were displaced have nice, if modest homes that are perfectly fine. I wonder why the government made them leave at great expense and uproot families who have been living in their communities for generations." Perfectly fine? Those people who went to the Astrodome were happy to be there... they had NOTHING left in NOLA. Their homes are GONE.
In the make sure to take the time to read these category:
Merri Musing takes on the case of the 21 year old and his "child" bride who is just 14 years old. They began their...um...relationship when she was just 12. As Merri states,"What lessons do we teach kids when we file a restraining order because we know that an adult and a child should not be having sex and then turn around and "bless" a marriage because the sex resulted in a pregnancy? Isn't our obligation as parents to teach our children right from wrong?"
Holly of Soldier's Angels offers a beautiful video tribute of 9/11.
I remember exactly what I was doing when I heard the news on September 11, and I remember watching the news as the horror unfolded. But that is not a good enough retrospective look. Yesterday, reading Michelle Malkin's post and the posts at the Mudville Gazette, the story hit me anew. And so I sat down to make a video, to ensure I never forget.
The Anchoress offers comfort and a tribute of the life of the ultimate mother, Mary.
But that is what a mother does. She reassures. She works for her family. She serves. She carries on and carries forward, doing the things that need to be done. Even if all the while, her heart is pierced with a sword of deep and lasting sorrow.
The American Princess gives us the latest information regarding the "Michael Newdow" pledge allegiance issue.
Michael Newdow, nutty plaintiff extraordinaire, acting as a lawyer for two California women (who apparently have their sights set on making certain that their children never hear "God" ever in their lives), has had a modicum of success in his never-ending question to get the Pledge of Allegiance the heck out of public schools. And the Federal District Court in California played right into their hands.
And finally time to face the music:
Zendo Deb of TFS Magnum
says with the internet and the information out there about you, there is "nowhere to hide."
You cannot disappear anymore. This women moved away, changed her name and SSN, and was easy to find for $25. The online databases have every piece of information about you down to your habbits. (How do you think they detect credit card fraud?)The time to face is your problems is now.You cannot run from your troubles but must be prepared to face them.
Carol of The Gray Tie says there is no time to blame. Find out from her about personal responsibility and how the president hates white women...
President Bush most certainly did not come down here before I was widowed to make sure that I had everything arranged and in place, like wills and insurance and papers in order, and to help prepare me for the awful, chilling and unsettling, but inevitable fate that was awaiting me. Bush hates me and it's all his fault.
And now it is time for you to click on all of these links!
Better late than never...right? :)

My 9/11 post
What did I do to commemorate the anniversary of 9/11 yesterday?
I went to church. I taught Sunday School. I prayed.
I went to lunch with friends and talked about our children and our problems and our joy and our pains.
I went to see a sick friend in the hospital. A single mother of four scheduled for open heart surgery tomorrow.
I watched my child play and giggle. I watched her play with her best friend, another little girl who is a month older than my little girl. I listened to her talk about her princess birthday party for her 3rd birthday. Next week, she'll be Cinderella, her best friend will be Snow White and eight other little girls will be dressed in lace and glitter and pearls.
I went to Wal-Mart. Of course.
I comforted others who lost a loved one.
I caught up with a friend who had been distant lately.
I lived. I breathed. I laughed. I cried. I shopped. A normal Sunday. A day of worship, a day of families and friends.
No, I didn't forget. I'll never forget. But I did the most I could to make my day a day worth living. To honor those who are no longer with us...and to make those idiots who wanted to take that away from us know that they failed. I did all the things the terrorists tried to stop us from doing. They hate us so much they wanted to kill our hope, our dreams, our everyday life.
And they have failed.
That's how I remembered 9/11.

Mommy mistake #19834
Never give an almost three year old gum. Especially gum shaped in a tiny ball. That can fit in her nose. Ugh.
And know BEFORE the trip to the emergency room that the gum will eventually desolve in the nostril and slip out her nose without any intervention at all. Ever been laughed at in the emergency room?
Ah...well...um...
yeah.

Ophelia?
Chances are we Floridians might have a little storm this weekend. Tropical Depression 16 is well on it's way to being named (it's a girl!) Ophelia and she's heading straight toward Florida...
Of course, I blame Bush.

unbelievable
"The water crept to the top of the massive berm that holds back the lake and then spilled over. Nearly 80 percent of New Orleans lies below sea level—more than eight feet below in places—so the water poured in. A liquid brown wall washed over the brick ranch homes of Gentilly, over the clapboard houses of the Ninth Ward, over the white-columned porches of the Garden District, until it raced through the bars and strip joints on Bourbon Street like the pale rider of the Apocalypse. As it reached 25 feet (eight meters) over parts of the city, people climbed onto roofs to escape it. "
An on the scene report of the devestation occurring? No. A printed article in National Geographic dated 2004...
And no one had a plan for this?

Rehnquist dies
Chief Justice William Rehnquist died tonight at his home. He was 80 years old. He has battled cancer and was declining in health for months.
He was on the Supreme Court for 33 years.
The sound that you hear? The sound of liberals' heads exploding everywhere at the thought of President Bush getting the opportunity to choose another Supreme Court justice... Of course, after this week's events, it's almost too tempting to say: Who cares?

Hurricane Blogging...Cotillion Style
Despite the rumors... Katrina is not a member of Cotillion.
She was just a little too mean (that has to be awfully mean) and destructive for our tastes (really, disaster areas are so passe). The Cotillion bloggers have joined the efforts of so many bloggers who are trying to do something, anything for the victims.
Below are some posts that offer suggestions of charities, offer opinions and a few common sense items as well:
A mom and her blog examines the affects of Hurricane Katrina... in Florida.
Absinthe & Cookies asks that you donate through the American Angelican Council.
And Rightly So! has some images of the damage and links to how you can help.
Annika's Journal selects Catholic Charities as her hurricane charity of choice.
Are You Conservative? suggests Florida Cracker for extensive blog coverage (duly noted).
Baldilocks offers the criminals in New Orleans a little common sense advice: "When someone is trying to save your life, don’t shoot at them; especially when you are massively outgunned."
Bobo gives a good roundup of some creative ways other bloggers are soliciting donations.
Cake Eater Chronicles gives us the great suggestion for those who may not have the funds to give but still want to help:
It also bears mentioning that the American Red Cross is always hurting for blood donations. If you are perhaps a wee bit strapped for cash and would like to help out in some way, but lack the cash, it's time for you to go to your local chapter of the Red Cross and donate a pint. You'll be helping an organization that's helping those in need---it's just as good as giving cash. And, really, it's doesn't hurt that much. I promise. Plus you get a donut and juice when you're done! What more could you ask for?
Janette from Common Sense Runs Wild has a wonderful round up of a lot of wonderful bloggers. It's hard to pick just one post to highlight so make sure to go to her site and read them all. She is supporting the Salvation Army and has a lot of information regarding the organization.
Darleen has a few...um...choice words for those who blame Bush.
Dr. Sanity gives us another reason why we should be proud of the military.
For most Americans, these ongoing and essential humanitarian activities, routinely engaged in by the US miliary--at home and abroad-- are simply more reasons to be proud of and grateful to the men and women who volunteer in the various military services and who risk their lives protecting ours every day.
Fistful of Fortnights (DOT NET) with Phin are offering an *original* Apothegm blog design to the highest bidder. All proceeds go to help the victims of Katrina, of course.
As I've already mentioned in this post, Donnah from Florida Cracker has been posting extensively regarding the hurricane aftermath. It's worth your time to go to her entire blog. Her charities "of choice" is animal disaster relief and she is willing to match your funds. Very cool.
Free Thoughts lets us know that the Italians have not forgotten the victims of Katrina.
Ilyka supports feed the children (who wouldn't support feeding the children? heehee)...
Kellipundit gives us a little more perspective:
I work within a Louisiana state run hospital and attended an emergency meeting this afternoon. There are reports of nursing home residents stranded on rooftops. 'Big Charity' hospital in New Orleans almost immediately lost their generators and the first floor is now completely submerged. The tentative plan is to try and evacuate patients via boat to Baton Rouge and from there Airforce transport planes are going to fly patients to waiting hospitals. Many of these patients were in critical condition to begin with.Imagine being sick or old and completely displaced to places with no friends or family whatsoever. I've had colleagues who've lost everything. It is all very, very sad.
Keep Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana in your prayers. I'll try to update when possible.
Maxed Out Mama provides links to news for the often overlooked areas of Mississippi.
Merri Musings gives some great links to where you can donate.
Beth from MY Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is back and has a few thoughts on the hurricane aftermath. I can't quote any of it because well...I can't say (or write) anything worse than "butt" without feeling guilty... I'd have to repent twice to quote what she writes.
Stacy from Not a Desperate Housewife blogs for her family.
Portia Rediscovered sends A Call for Help.
Calling Hurricane Katrina's aftermath devastating seems somewhat trivial. It is estimated that over 3 million people do not have power right now, hundreds are thought dead, thousands upon thousands are displaced and homeless, and countless more are at risk of infection or death due to disease from the water. New Orleans is one of our country's most beautiful and historic cities; this is so upsetting.
Reasoned Audacity says Robert Kennedy is using Katrina for political posturing.
Incredible. There are bodies floating in the water in New Orleans and Kennedy rushes to the microphones to blame Katrina on the Bush Administration -- because we didn't sign the Kyoto Protocol...I guess he must have missed yesterday's New York Times which reported no link between global warming and hurricanes.
Rightwingsparkle suggests giving to Catholic Charities.
Sissy asks that you donate to Animal League of Boston. Apparently many people are listening:
We're already seeing the response from your 'blog world'! Keep up the great work," writes our pointman for Animal Rescue League of Boston flood relief efforts, Director of Communications Tom Adams..."
Holly has video of New Orleans before Katrina and asks for contribution to the Soldiers' Angels hurricaine relief fund.
TFS Magnum provides links to satellite images of New Orleans...before..and after.
The American Princess has an extensive, very helpful post of what you can do. Lists of charities, ideas and infomation included.
The Anchoress asks her readers to donate to Catholic Charities. She also generously offers that sales via the Anchoress bookshelf will be contributed to the aftermath of Katrina Relief Efforts for the month of September.
Fausta of The Bad Hair Blog gives an extensive list of the foreign aid effort.
Mary Katherine Ham of Townhall.com says "now is the time."
Cassandra of Villainous Company talks about "Acts of God."
Watching televised coverage of the disaster relief efforts I was overcome with pity for the thousands of people who are suffering and the plight of a city I dearly love and looked forward to returning to this month. But it wasn't long before my tears were replaced with another emotion: anger. For the waters have not even begun to recede and the fighting has already started.
Who Tends the Fires says "do what you can!" A good list of charities and their phone numbers.
Beth from Yeah, Right, Whatever asks for any ideas how to get the #1 requested item to the Katrina "refugees": Bibles.

"We need the military in here NOW...
A chilling post on The Interdictor who is giving up to date information from the heart of New Orleans:
In case anyone in national security is reading this, get the word to President Bush that we need the military in here NOW. The Active Duty Armed Forces. Mr. President, we are losing this city. I don't care what you're hearing on the news. The city is being lost. It is the law of the jungle down here. The command and control structure here is barely functioning. I'm not sure it's anyone's fault -- I'm not sure it could be any other way at this point. We need the kind of logistical support and infrastructure only the Active Duty military can provide. The hospitals are in dire straights. The police barely have any capabilities at this point. The National Guard is doing their best, but the situation is not being contained. I'm here to help in anyway I can, but my capabilities are limited and dropping. Please get the military here to maintain order before this city is lost.
New Orleans can't do this alone, they'll need all of us supporting them for a very long time. Yes, there are a lot of people right now only making a terrible situation much much worse by being stupid, selfish and completely out of their minds; but please keep in mind that there are a lot of innocent people who are still trapped in the city (poor people; children; sick; elderly) and there are a lot of people in that city trying to salvage and restore their hope. We can't abandon them just because of some idiots who don't know how to behave.
What can you do?
Unfortunately not much to appease the situation described above, but you can contribute to the charity of your choice (please be smart about where to donate; established charities such at the Red Cross or Salvation Army); you could contribute to a family individually (like Wizbang blogger Paul); you can give blood. If you have an extra room, consider opening it up to someone who has nowhere to go.
And you can pray. Hard.
